Depressed - November 3rd 2012, 12:08 AM

I've been really down for a while now, my problems aren't really bad, they're typical teenager problems but I have such a negative mind set. I make my problems seem worse than they actually are. I never wanna be with people anymore, I'd rather be alone where I can mope all day, I don't know what's wrong with me. I haven't got the energy to even try and change things because so far, everything I've done hasn't worked. I don't really know how to stop being so depressing. Talking about it hasn't really helped so I dont really know what else to try.

I know it'll hurt to push yourself, but that's what you need. You said you don't want to be around people, but you have to push through it. The more you isolate yourself, the worse you'll feel. It's good that you're talking about it, though. Continue talking to us on TH and we'll support you! Don't bottle it inside. Even if they're 'typical' problems, they still mean something to you. I'm here to support you through them.

Hey there mate, I know how hard it is to force yourself to get out of the house, and out of dwelling on your problems. Honestly though, getting out and being interactive in even the most abysmal things can help take your mind off of what you are going through.
Maybe pick up a book you've wanted to read, or play a video game, maybe go out with a group of friends or play sports after school(?), depending on what your hobbies include, you could find hobbies which have you surrounded by friends.

it's the best thing to do, just leave behind life and have some fun, it's all about you when you feel like shit mate, nobody else, just you. And focus on what is best for YOU.

Hi there.

The truth is everyone finds different things helpful in recovery. While one person finds intensive inpatient care helpful, others find, community support helpful and some find that getting on with it and filling their lives in work, studies, frriend's and social events helpful too. Its time for you to think what's going to help you.

You say its about your mind set but only you can change your mind set. You have to challenge the thoughts you're having and then begin to change those thoughts. You're the person who is being negative. No one else - You. And therefore, only you can change that. I'm not saying its going to be easy, its going to take time to begin to learn how to do that and its going to be hard at times, but if you keep living with such a negative mind set, you're not going to get out of this. Chances are it will just drag you down ever deeper.

I know it can be really hard to get yourself up in the mornings, to get on with your day, to socialise and to go to social events with no motivation, but sometimes as hard as it can be, we have to force ourselves to do these things. Chances are you're only making yourself feel worse by staying in and doing nothing. I honestly believe if you get out there and interact and engage with friends an society, then you'll feel a lot better.

You can do this so keep believing,
