Never regret anything, because at one time it was exactly what you wanted

Depression, as a mental disorder, is when someone experiences persistent feelings of sadness and low self-esteem (along with a whole bunch of other possible symptoms, for example insomnia or unexplained weight-loss/gain) that interfere with some aspect of your life.

I think it's important to realise that if you're feeling 'depressed', it doesn't mean you have depression, necessarily. But if those feelings last for a long time (normally a few weeks or more), and cause some disruption in your life - then you could be diagnosed with depression.

Hope that sort of helps, I'm no professional, and I don't know the exact definition. But that's how I'd put it
