My happy box AKA first aid box (photo's.) - April 18th 2013, 12:01 AM

Hey guys.

This is really personal to me but I often give the idea to people so I thought I'd show you all what I mean. This is what I call my happy box AKA first aid box. And although I haven't used it in a while, It used to help me a lot and I'm thinking I might start using it again.

Basically, you get a box and fill it with things that mean things, make you happy, make you feel better when you feel sad to help you through any urges to hurt yourself or any suicidal thoughts or anything like that.

This is what mine looks like.

My list of things I can do (From my old CAMHS worker)

Lists of things my friends like about (A task my old CAMHS worker set me)

DBT/CBT cards from my old CAMHS worker.

Things made by my sister

Books from two very special friends on this site, (I love you both)

This, is filled of messages from you guys, from when I was admitted onto a psych unit for five months. These messages, meant a lot to me, so thankyou for that.

Photo's.

Letters from friends and family.

Tickets from gigs etc (good memories)

And nail varnish to keep busy, worry dolls from my mum (she sent me them when I was in hospital), a bracelet from my holiday, herbal tablets which apparently help you to sleep (I wish!) and two things from a friend and my mum.

A friend from here made this for me, it's again, filled with messages from you guys. <3

I did upload a photo of a letter from my old CAMHS worker after I was discharged and referred onto adults, but it was a little too person so I took it off, but things like that, which mean something, put it in there.

So, I hope, if you're one of the people I gave this idea to, it gives you inspiration to do it. And if you do do it, I hope it helps you.

Remember, anything is possible. Recovery is possible and you are worth it. Don't stop fighting. I believe in every single one of you.

Jessie.

Good idea and lol at the glow stick

Mine would probably include a bottle of Xanax. Always got me out of those shitty sleepless nights.

When I was in hospital, another girl gave me the idea to snap a glow band when I had an urge to self harm and then the idea is you're not allowed to self harm until it's stopped glowing. It also made the staff aware of when I was struggling since I wasn't very good at communicating with them.

Thankyou. You just reminded me to have a look at my "self-soothe" box, which they got me to make when I was in DBT. I'd forgotten about it this week, and I really could have done with it. I think my goal today is going to be adding to it and making it better. Yours is awesome by the way.

I just wanted to let you know you've inspired me to start making a happy box. So far I've put some letters, pictures, and concert tickets in it, but I'm not sure what else to put in!

I love this idea and your collection is really nice. I have a box myself but I rarely use it and don't have nearly as much as you do in it. I think I may start adding to it again now though, since it really does help when I'm feeling down. I have no doubts this will help people,e specially now that they have some examples.
