Red face I told someone - April 28th 2013, 01:11 PM

I finally told my Mum, my aunt and uncle how i was feeling. I went to see my mum after she cut all of her arm up and told her that i knew what she was going through, at first she didnt understand so i just kinda blurted out about my arm and thighs and everywhere else, she took it better than expected, but i told her not to tell my dad. i told my aunt and uncle when we went out to lunch and my aunt wasnt that happy, but she understood she said that she would kick my ass if i did it again. im planning on telling sister soon but im not ready to tell my dad yet i will in time but i will need to soon. my mum said after i tell my dad i will start to get help, i dont want my dad to get angry and blame my mum cus i know he will, but at the same time i need the help. so i don't know where to go from there.

I'm so happy you told your mom, aunt, and uncle. As stated before, you go, girl!!

What I recommend doing is going on YouTube; there's tons of videos about telling your parents that you self-harm.

Keep in mind that your aunt was probably angry because she's scared for your safety and it's a lot for her to absorb. Don't let this discourage you from telling your dad. You could write a note, or tell him in person; you could even have your mom tell him if you'd like. If you tell him in person, try to make sure he is in a good mood and that all of his attention is on you.

As for your sister, is she older or younger?

Wow, Courtney! You've been struggling with this for awhile in secret, so I'm really happy you were able to tell people. I'm especially glad your mom took it well. Hopefully because she understands and you two can get through this together. You're really brave and strong, and I agree that telling others will make it easier for you to have support and recover.

Sorry about how your aunt took it. I'm sure she just cares a lot about you and this was her first response to it. Might take some people a bit for it to set in. If you want, you and your mom could tell your dad together if it'd be easier, or you could tell him via a note. Explain that it's not your mom's fault because a lot of teenagers self-harm even when they have parents who don't self-harm and are mentally healthy. So it's not your mom's fault. Just let him know you need some help.

How old is your sister?

Hope this all goes well. You're doing so great, Courtney. I'm here if you need me.

Stay Strong <3

Well I think it'd be a great idea to talk to your sister since she's older and she's been through it. She's more likely to understand better.
