Depression - November 7th 2013, 01:27 AM

I think that I'm depressed, so I told my parents, but
•they think I'm just being over dramatic
•my dads out of work so we can't afford a councillor
•it's getting worse every day
I have no idea what to do!

Erika,

Well done for telling your parents! That can be a very difficult thing to do during the early stages of depression, so good job.

As for their understanding, how did you tell them? If it was brief them I suggest you write down how you feel, why you feel this way and then show your parents this. This is a good way of proving to them that you are having problems and that they should listen to you.

In regards to the money issue, I assume you're still in school? If so don't you have a student counsellor or a teacher you're close to in which you can ask for help? Their advice and help is almost always free of charge, therefore money wouldn't have as big an issue.

As for the actual depression, it's not going to completely disappear straight away, it's a long journey, but I promise you its worth it! I suggest you log how you feel in a journal or in a blog if you can't explain feelings face to face.

Hope I've helped,

~Jack.
