Am I considered suicidal - May 22nd 2015, 05:29 PM

Hey,
I plan on killing myself if I don't get into the psychology course.
Is that considered suicidal?

Personally I would say yes because you're having suicidal thoughts. You're thinking that you are going to do something if you don't get in to the course. You're planning, maybe even. But having that suicidal thought there makes you suicidal. It doesn't mean you are actively suicidal (as in you are at huge risk of suicide now) but I would say you are having suicidal thoughts, personally.

Suicide honestly isn't the way out. I won't go on about it because you have't asked for help on it, but I want you to know that you have a future, and we're here to support you through anything you do go through so don't be alone in this. Talk to people and let them and let them help. You deserve it.

Stay safe and take care,
Jessie

Jessie is right - suicide isn't the way out of this. Even if you don't achieve your goal right now, you still have a future ahead and there is plenty of time.

In regard to your question, I would have to concur that yes, you would be considered suicidal if you have reached a point of viewing it as a viable alternative. I do hope you don't go down that road, however. Best wishes.

I would agree with those above. I would perhaps say you were having suicidal thoughts rather than describing you as suicidal though. To be honest, words and titles mean nothing. It's how you feel which is the important part.

I understand that right now getting into university might feel like the be-all and end-all but it honestly isn't. There are so many options out there and there's always the possibility of re-applying next year if you don't get onto the course. It's great that you have goals to aim for, but it can be unhealthy to place so much importance on them. Try to explore different possibilities in the mean time just so you can have a back up plan.

You're not alone and a lot of people love you. You're worth more than what your academic transcript says.
