Does anyone else find swearing to be an often occurrence when depressed? - July 13th 2015, 12:24 AM

I often swear in real life when i'm feeling depressed and something bad happens e.g I get rejected for a job I will just say a bad word because I'm so miserable I do it because it feels like everything is going wrong and you want to get your frustration out. I was just wondering if this is just me or does anyone else find themselves doing this?

How do you manage your stress and frustration?
Take care ~Justin~

I kind of do it. When I am feeling depressed or low I get frustrated more quickly or things get to me more easily, so I'll curse in frustration. Not a long string of swears or anything like that, but maybe I'll throw a few into my own personal narrations, or say something out loud if nobody else is around (Seeing as my parents don't like me swearing). I'd say you probably aren't the only one.

I vent to people when I feel this way. Online people, mind you, but it still counts. I sometimes also do things that are both fun and distracting such as playing an online game.

I'm the opposite, I swear more when I'm happy, but that could be because I talk then.

If you're finding you're swearing more when you're feeling depressed it could be because you're getting frustrated at lot more easily.

Yes, but I think for me I become very angry when I let depression take over. I usually rant and cuss like a sailor in a journal, and not out to the world haha It feels good to let it out. To control it, I just lay back and relax and listen to music. I can't do any hobbies or anything I like because if I screw something up, I get angrier and more depressed but that's just me. Just relax and take your mind to another place.

I swear like a trooper most of the time, much as I'm really trying to change that When I'm upset yes I swear more, I read a study a long time ago linking swearing with reduction of feelings of pain? And yeah loads of people swear in frustration so that could be why you swear more when feeling low

Take as long as you need.

I would say in personal experience, I swore a lot more when I was depressed rather than if I was happy. I suppose it depends person to person if it does this to them or not. Pm me if you want to talk about anything else.
