How to get away from it? - January 20th 2017, 10:47 PM

I've found myself being pretty sad recently, and I've never really talked to a professional about it, so I don't really know how to cope with it. I've been trying to surround myself with the people I love, but the second I'm alone, I just slip and get sad again.

What can I do when I am alone to help from me getting worse?

Hi Danielle,

Surrounding yourself with people who care about you and that you enjoy being with is a good place to begin. I think it's great that you've taken that step, but of course they can't be with you all the time, and sometimes we do have to be alone.

When you are alone and don't have people around you - maybe you can use that time to do some things that you enjoy or maybe some self-care type of activities like taking a shower, fixing your hair, painting your nails, washing your face, cleaning, or a number of activities. Don't allow yourself to sit around and do nothing. That will make you feel worse and will lead to you being sad that you aren't out with friends or around your family.

You mentioned you've been feeling sad for a while, is there something that happened that has kind of triggered you to feel sad and has now bled into your life when you're alone? I know you also said you haven't ever talked to a professional but I think that could be really beneficial if it is an ongoing thing. This can be someone you trust like an adult such as a counselor or teacher at your school or your parents too. It can be scary, but they can help you process why you're feeling sad and be there for you when you are feeling that way.
