I don't know how to make it go away... - March 18th 2017, 12:12 AM

So for the past of few days, I just haven't been feeling myself. I get this feeling somewhat often, but usually when it happens, there is something that makes it better. I have felt this for over a year or so, and it is a pretty big inconvenience.But the worst is when I can't make it go away, and it just gets worse and worse. That's what I am feeling today, and I don't know how to shake it. Yesterday I had an amazing day, I literally got the news that I'm going to Spain! That is one of those things that should have made me pretty happy today, but I just couldn't get there.

Right now, I just feel nothing. I don;t know exactly how to explain it, but I don;t want to anything. I haven't done anything today, and I literally just stared at my wall for over an hour. Both of my parents noticed I was off, and I just said it was nothing, because I don't even know what's going on. I also have volleyball tonight and Sunday all day, and I honestly don't know if I can make it through it all feeling like this.

Just a little note though, when posting this, I am not saying I depression or anything like that. I just have been feeling down recently, and I just need ways to help with it

You said that your parents noticed that you were off, maybe you could open up to them about what's going on. It's hard, but so worth it. Whether or not it's depression, you deserve to feel happy. It's great that you're reaching out here for ideas on what to do to help deal with these feelings though! When I'm down I like to play my guitar or read, both are things I'm passionate about and always enjoy doing. Find something that you care about and when you're struggling, do it! It can be hard to work up the energy to do these things, but sometimes just getting up and moving around makes everything better. I find even just making myself smile can lift my mood. We have a thread in the "self harm" forum that has user submitted ways that people are beating self harm; it's different from depression but a lot of the tactics that people use to distract from self harm can also be used to lift ourselves out of depression. I'll post the link HERE.

There's no shame in feeling depressed, everyone feels depressed or down at times, but if it's something that is becoming an inconvenience in your life, you need to let someone know about it. You deserve to feel better than this and to be able to live your life to the full. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out (I'm a pretty good listener if you just want to vent!).

P.S. SPAIN IS GREAT! I had the awesome opportunity to go when I was 17 and loved it. I'm so excited for you to go!

Hi Danielle,

That is awesome that you get to go to Spain! I have never been personally, but I think I would like to go at some point. I hope you have fun!

I always hated being depressed despite something good happening. Have you tried doing other things that make you happy? Like going for walks, listening to music, playing with friends, things like that? Maybe something like that will help lift your mood? Have you talked to your doctor about how you're feeling?
