I don't know what is wrong with me. - May 19th 2017, 02:31 AM

I don't know what is going on with me. I just don't feel like myself right now. I feel really down and depressed and I just want to cry. I don't know how to make myself okay and not depressed, I just don't care anymore. I don't know if it's because of my parents fighting, or taking the school final exams. I wish I didn't feel like this. I don't know what to do. I have tried drawing to pick me up but I am still feeling down. What is wrong with me? I need to figure this out.

Hey London,

Sorry to hear you're not feeling like yourself right now. Sadly I can't tell you what's wrong with you, however I can try and help you find a way to feel a bit better. Drawing may not fix the problem but I think you should keep drawing anyway as it's a wonderful way to pass the time and a really good way to develop a skill you already have! What sort of things do you draw? Could you perhaps use art as a way to get your feelings onto paper? Perhaps when you're not feeling too great, instead of drawing to make you happier, you could draw to get things off your mind. Grab some paper, some colours, and just draw whatever you think portrays how you feel. It doesn't matter if it makes sense to nobody but you, but you could keep a sort of art journal so that it isn't all up in your head anymore. You could also do this outside so that you can get some air. Is there a spot nearby that you can go to for a couple of hours when things are particularly hard? You could find a tree to sit under, or a bench in a nice park somewhere, and take a sketch book with you. Draw something that you can see, and then make it as colourful and creative as you can! That way, it also gets you out of the house, especially if you're piled under by exams which take up a lot of time, and if your parents are arguing and you don't fancy being there to listen to it.

Other than that, is there a way you could speak to your parents about their arguing? You could explain to them that it's really starting to upset you and they may be able to sort something out with each other or with you as well which makes it a bit easier on you. It's possible that they have some issues of their own which may also need to be resolved, but of course it's not fair on you to have to listen to two people you love very much fighting all the time, so I'm sorry you're having to deal with that!

I'd recommend taking breaks from your exam preparation too. If you're worried that the stress of your exams might be contributing to you feeling so depressed, make sure you balance that and your social/personal life so that it isn't consuming every ounce of energy you have. They're important, but they aren't and never will be as important as your health and well being. If you're having a bit of trouble doing this alone, could you have a work with a teacher you trust about the stress exams are putting you under? Schools sometimes have excellent facilities to help students who are stressed about work load, and usually completely understand when it's getting a bit too much! They will have heard similar things from so many pupils before, so don't be afraid that they might not get it. It might help to have someone at the school who is looking out for you in a particularly stressful time.

Ok for what you are saying. When my parents are fighting me and my sister don't get into it. I like the idea of getting some paper and going outside and drawing. I have already tried that. Thank you for telling me about that. I have a park down the street from me. For the exams, my sister and I go to a private school and my parents say that they will never except anything less than a A+. This is why I always get so stressed out when I have to take any kind of exam or test. My parents say they don't want to waste money on us going to school. It's always school first, then friends. My parents always want me and my sister to be the best at everything. But if we are not, it's okay and that's not good enough for them. This is why I can't always talk to my parents. Don't get me wrong they love us, it's just hard to explain.
