Unhappy my*hero*makes*me*depressed*. - July 2nd 2009, 09:23 PM

i have a friend, who i strongly look up to. He's like my closest friend. Whenever I have a problem I know I can always go to him for anything, and He helps me no matter what. He never judges me or looks down on me for what I do. But at the same time, He makes me feel so unimportant. He's what makes me want to get out of my depression, but He's also the person who puts me in depression. I'm not really sure what to do.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hey Kayla,
Well it's great you have a friend that you look up to and is your hero. What kinds of things does he do to help you and what kind of things does he do to put you down? Maybe if you tried talking to him about how you feel he can help you more. A great friend is someone who helps you in times of need and keeps you positive. If he keeps putting you down and making you go into depression, maybe he's not the right friend. Hope this helps!

Hey sk8rchik;
thanks for your help. well.. whenver i have a problem, he always lets me know that He's always there for me, which it helps knowing that I have someone to talk to. And I know that He does care about me, and is trying to get me better.
But at the same time, I know that if anybody else had the same problem I did, He would say the same thing to them. So it makes me feel unimportant in a way. Like he has to help me, instead of chosing to help me.
=/.
you know?

Hey Kayla,

your friend is definitely choosing to help you. Even if he would still be there for other people, too, that doesn't mean that his care for you is any less real or present. The time that he gives to help you is given to help you, for you, not just as a generic action.

So basically, you are important to him. And you are important, just as you.

Hang in there

Hey Kayla,

I agree with Dancer. Just because he chooses to help others does not mean you are less important to him in fact that probably means you are really important to him because he views you as a friend that he wants to help. Generally people do not help others unless they want to and unless the person that they want to help is important to them.

If you are really worried about it maybe you could talk to him about it and share your concerns; he might be able to help calm your fears and worries a bit.

Hope this helped and if you want to talk feel free to pm me.
