Unhappy Feeling lost - January 15th 2010, 04:53 AM

I'm feeling very lost. I feel like I should be doing something, but nothing is happening. I'm feeling like a failure, and I have no idea why. I'm selling my first horse b/c he's not right for me, but that doesn't have anything to do with these feelings. I'm just feeling empty and like I'm being crushed my stress or something. I don't know what I should be doing or what I want to do. I'm only 15, so it seems like I can't do anything. I live in such a small town where I have very few friends. I really need something to do so I can keep killing myself out of my mind. Not that I'd probably ever do it. But...

Please help me... I need ideas to keep me alive. Things that I can do.

You gave another user some good advice on getting out of the house and finding purpose, so maybe you're wiser than you let on. Seek your own advice, it seems very good.

You are not a failure. At just fifteen, your life is likely far from over and so how can you have failed at it? Anyways I suggest you go out and try and find things that interest you. Things that you can use to occupy your time. Reach out to people around you for comfort and support when you are feeling down. In the meantime, try and find a good way to vent. If you can't talk to others, write. Keeping a journal is such a healthy way to release pain. Plus you can go back and read it and see where you might be going wrong and make plans for how to improve things in the future. Best of luck to you. I have faith things will get better.

Much in little.

Re: Feeling lost - January 16th 2010, 03:16 PM

just wanted to encourage you to reach out for help to people in your life because it sounds like you may have a mental illness such as Depression. Many Mental illnesses like depression are treatable with medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes such as eating balanced meals and getting enough sleep. It is however very very hard to go it alone. Your life is valuable, and with treatment things CAN get better.

Ask yourself "If I was happy, how would life be different than it is now?" It may be hard to imagine if you've been in emotional pain for a long time, but try to write as much as you can about what your life would be like. Then try to pick out the things in your "happy" life that you actually have control over and can work towards. Something like winning the lottery isn't realistic, but there are probably going to be several things that you do have control over. Make them specific and realistic goals.

also one or more of the following have helped me and may help you:

letting out my emotions. havinga good cry. buying a cheap plate at a thrift store, decorating it to representmy problems and SMASHING it. jumping on bubble wrap. screaming. doing art. writing.

relaxing. taking a hot bath. curling up under a blanket. drinking tea. tightening all my muscles and then one by one letting them relax.

-square breathing
take very slow deep breaths. inhale for two counts, then exhale for two counts. as you count inhale one – two, exhale one two picture a side of a blue square forming (or any other calming color) for each count in your mind. so each inhale is two sides of a square, and each exhale istwo sides, creating a full square.

In this technique, you form mental images to take a visual journey to a peaceful, calming place or situation. Try to use as many senses as you can, including smells, sights, sounds and textures. If you imagine relaxing at the ocean, for instance, think about the warmth of the sun, the sound of crashing waves, the feel of the grains of sand and the smell of salt water. You can also use visualization to imagine yourself doing well in an anxiety provoking situation- a sort of mental rehersal.

feeling like i have a purpose. weirdos do great things. most great artists and inventors had some major issues, but they are thought of as major contributors to our society. if you stick around, maybe you would help the world in some way, even if its just by being a kick ass mom, or mentoring a teen who has no one to look up to when you are older.

you're not alone.

When the patient's body has betrayed them,
and all the sciencewe have to offer has failed them,
when worst-case scenario comes true,
clinging to hope is all we've got left.

Try talking to your friends or family or anyone you trust how your feeling, that way it might help you feel better and your not dealing with this on your own.

Whenever your feeling down or stressed or whatever, maybe try doing a favourite activity, whether it be reading or watching tv etc. Maybe write down your feelings in a journal? It might help release those negative feelings you have. And last but not least, you can always come here and vent to us. We will always be here to listen and to help.

Stay positive. Things will get better. Take care. Feel free to PM me if you need anything.
