How do I know which one it is? - February 7th 2010, 06:50 PM

I'm not going to re-post the whole huge story here- But if you read my post called "We didn't get a fair chance" in the "Relationships and Dating" section, that's the boy problem that I'm referring to in this.

To sum it up quickly, I'm in a mess with this guy. And I've been unable to sleep well or be as happy as I usually am. I've just felt really bad, really depressed. But, I really don't know whether it's the boy problem causing me to feel depressed- or whether I'm already depressed, and it's making me think about my relationship problem- because it's not like me to get this upset about something without there being a deeper problem. I talked to my mom about it, and she also doesn't see how this guy can be causing this. But the only time I feel bad is when I think about it (although, I think about it pretty much constantly). My mom seems to think it's about other things that I'm not admitting, but I really don't think so. I really do think I'm just so in love that it hurts this badly. But is that possibly causing this much harm on it's own? Or is there probably an underlying problem, like real depression?

Hey Megan,
Sorry you are feeling this way over this guy. Guys can cause a lot of emotions especially after a breakup. Different people feel differently after a breakup so it is possible you are only feeling this way over this. Remember, we cannot diagnose you with depression, we can only voice our opinions. But if you were feeling depressed before this whole thing, and then this just added to it, you may have depression. If you'd like to know for sure though, I suggest going to a doctor.
Hang in there,
Alessa

Like Alessa said, a doctor would probably be able to help you figure out for sure.
It never hurts to check, and it's great that your mom is there for you. . Maybe ask her what she thinks about going to the doctor...she sounds supportive.
Keep your head up! You can get through this-whether it's just the relationship stuff or something more.
Here if you need anything...

Thanks guys! I've talked to a counseler, and she thought it was situational depression (meaning that it's not the actual chemical disease and it won't last). And it's not that bad. Everyone who I haven't told thinks that I'm pretty much the happiest person in the world, so it's not bad enough that it shows. Which is good, because I mainly joined here because I'm not good at asking for help. I feel like I'm complaining, so I usually just act like I'm fine.

That's great! Time will heal just take things slow. Here is the place to complain all you want because no one will judge you, only try to help you. That's what this site is for! But remember, you don't always have to pretend your find. If you're having a bad day and just need someone to stay with you, it's okay to tell your friend how you are feeling. I'm sure they'll be supportive.
