No one even bothers to help... - February 9th 2010, 08:41 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Hi there, the name's Sam and obviously I'm new. I came to this site to try to find help with my current problems. I believe I am suffering from severe depression, and whenever I confide in someone, they tell me it will just pass. No one seems to take me seriously. Suicidal thoughts come to me in a daily basis, my once honor roll report card has dropped, I never leave my room except to visit my boyfriend who is the only person who seems to care about what I'm going through. It seems like I'm in a tunnel that I just can't find the end of.

I finally got myself to tell my parents about this problem. At first they seemed concerned, but now that my suicidal thoughts have increased, they yell at me and tell me I'm only a burden on them. All I want is for someone to help me. I really need some advice.

I'm sure when people tell you it'll pass, they're not trying to be rude. You're a teenager, your hormones are bound to fluxuate and mess around with your moods. But, perhaps you could go to a school councellor, and see if they can help you any?

Well this has been going on for about 7 months now. It started back in the summer with some unfortunate events, which seem to keep getting worse. I battled annorexia and one close encounter with suicide. My school councliers don't like to deal with these type of issues, and are over booked with seniors working on getting into colleges. They usually send people like me to talk to my own peers, who I don't want in my problems. I am going to talk to my doctor about it, but it's taken weeks for me to get an appointment. So it's not as easy as walking into somewhere and coming back out fixed.

Well if it started with some unfortunate events, then definitely more of a worry. But as I said, people usually assume that everything is due to teenage hormones fluxuating, and in alot of cases it is, so they're not trying to be rude to you.

Thats unfortunate that your guidance department can't help you, but at least you're going to see your doctor about it. And I KNOW it's not "walking in and coming out fixed", but there are steps you have to take for such, and if there is something wrong, the doctor will most likely have therapy as part of your treatment.
