Is this depression? - March 7th 2010, 08:05 PM

Basically I just feel miserable whenever I'm left by myself. Being with friends makes me feel happier just for a bit, but...
I can't see a point to anything any more. Doing something will make a reaction... what's the point of making that reaction? Why bother with anything at all?
Am I depressed? Or just getting slightly down?

Hey Chris,
Since we are just regular people here and not doctors, we can't diagnose you with depression. We can only voice our opinions. With that stated, loss of interest in activies is a symptom of depression, but usually you have quite a few symptoms before you are actually diagnosed with depression. Here is a link with symptoms of depression. You may want to see your doctor though so he/she can get you the right help if you are depressed. For now, just try to do more things with your friends that you enjoy. That can bring your mood up for a while. PM me if you want to talk.

I'm really sorry things've been so down lately :/
I'm not authorized to diagnose anyone with anything, but if you've been consistently upset, I think you should talk to someone about it. Your doctor or even your school counsellor (if you're willing) would be able to help you figure it out, and get you help if you are depressed. For now, I'd try paying attention to your moods and noting when and why you're feeling down. It's great that you have friends that you feel better around though <3 maybe plan more activities with them, as well as something else that's active but takes commitment. Swimming on Fridays, joining some sort of team, martial arts, anything that gets your blood pumping and gets you out of the house for a while. Could help.

Like it has been stated, we aren't doctors, so there is no way for us to officially diagnose you in any shape or form.

A common indicator of depression is how long your symptoms last (2 weeks is the starting point) and how much they are interfering with your daily life. Talking to your doctor and letting them know what's going on, they'll be able to help you out from there.
