Unhappy Numb - March 24th 2010, 09:01 AM

I've been feelign really odd recently; the only way I can describe it is numb. I don't feel really down but I don't feel happy and im certainly not ok. I can't explain it andI dont understand it, all i know is its really strange and I don't like it. the most annoying thing is thats ive had this feeling fro over a week now and it seems to be stuck. when people ask me how i am i don't know how to answer, because I just don't know! I don't even have a reason for feeling like this! I feel numb, but slightly down all the time, like the only thing i can feel is slightly down. if emotions are a scale, with one end being suicidal, the other being very happy and the middle being completly numb, im stuck in the middle, just leaning slightly towards the down side, and this is how ive felt constantly for about a week so far. I can't feel happy, I dont feel really down and i havent felt angry for ages either. I really don't knowq whats going on with emotions/mood at the moment, and it really worries me! any advice or similar feelings would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there,

I am so glad that you decided to post about how you have been feeling. Support can help so much when we go through difficult times like this; it is important to communicate your emotions to the best of your ability, so that you may recieve help in overcoming them.

Being depressed is no fun, but sometimes, feeling numb can be even worse. Perhaps it would help if you did things that tend to envoke strong emotion within yourself; do something you really enjoy, watch a comedy or even a sad movie. This could help to bring to the surface what the true problem is, because it will allow you to feel.

Is there anyone in your life that you could speak to about how you have been feeling? Building a support system is SO important, and can help so much during times like these. I strongly encourage you to speak to your doctor, a close friend...even a teacher or a relative. Any of these people could offer you support and guidance in how to overcome these feelings.

Take care. If you ever need to talk, you can contact me any time.

in a long time,
I can say that I wanna try.
I feel helpless for the most part,
but I'm learning to open my eyes.
And the sad truth of the matter is,
I'll never get over it,
but I'm gonna try
to get better and overcome each moment
in my own way"

Re: Numb - March 24th 2010, 05:02 PM

Hey there Georgia-Louise,

I'm sorry to hear about how you're feeling, feeling numb can be very frustrating. It can be especially frustrating when you're confused and finding it hard to understand how you're feeling. I am not suprised that this is frustrating for you.

I can say that I have felt a similar way to what you're describing now, Georgia-Louise, and it has passed. Where as it's positive that you feel as though you're on the middle of the mood scale, I'd encourage you to go more towards the top of the scale, feeling pleasure in what you do and feeling happy. To try and ease yourself out of this feeling then perhaps you could attempt to do some things that you really enjoy doing, such as listening to music, sport, writing, reading or going out with friends if you like those things. I think it's very important to keep active and doing things. This feeling will pass, it just takes some time.

You may also find that writing down how you're feeling, talking about it with someone you trust or doing expressive activities such as art or writing may help you.

Take care.

Re: Numb - March 25th 2010, 09:37 AM

Thanks guys. Jessi, I spoke to the school counsellor yesterday about it because I used to see her and she is a good friend, she didn't really have much to say, other than that it may be another way of coping with stuff at the moment. I have a good support network, but all i want to do is hide away and shut everyone out tbh. Ive started writing my feelings down again, because I used to a lot but stopped and bottled it all up again recently, I wrote yesterday for the first time in ages. but its hard to bring my barriers down again and open up, because my support is harder to reach because of things at home getting in the way. im not really having and encouragement to topen up from my support because its difficult to contact them!
