not sure if i should tell her - April 1st 2010, 04:10 PM

I started antidepressants last october and have been stable on the meds since then but recently i have been feeling more and more down and i don't want to worry mom but it is making it hard to concentrate at school. This is difficult because i am in my last year of high school and being depressed is to much ontop of all the work. Should i talk to my mom about or just leave it.... i have no idea what is going on with me.

Hey Jenny, first of all I think it's good that you're actually considering talking to your mum. I understand that you don't want to worry her but I think it would actually benefit you and her if she knew how you're feeling. Something I've come to learn is that parents worry whether they know something is wrong or not. Sometimes they even worry more when they don't know what is wrong.

I can relate to where you are right now. I struggled throughout school and particularly in my last year and I did actually talk to my mum in the end and I'm actually really glad that I did. It wasn't easy. I think the hardest part was knowing how to start the conversation off. It might sound cheesy but I made myself a list of what I wanted to say and had that with me when I spoke to her. It turned out that I didn't need that list but just having it with me made me feel more confident because it was there as something to fall back on if I got lost for words. Perhaps you could try doing the same?

I don't want to tell you what to do but it does sound like you need support right now and your mum is someone who can be there to give you some of that support, but you have to remember that she can't help you unless she knows something is wrong.

I agree with ellie, i think you should tell your mom because she's probably worried about you and wants to know what's going on. I also thing you might wanna go back to your doctor and ask for more help because i'm sure you want this to stop. So yeah i think you should tell your mom because she's worried about you and wants you to know that she cares for you.
If you need anything feel free to pm or vm me and i'll be willing to help u out
