do you have an unusual rituals or routines? - May 26th 2010, 03:53 AM

do you have an unusual rituals or routines? and what do you think will happen if you dont do them. i have lots, but im going to just say a few..

-sometimes i repeat what people say aloud, eg, someone says "hey, havent seen you in ages, how you been?" ill go "how you been"... not all the time though, sometimes.

-in the shower i wash my selfish with soap and bodywash 2 times each

-if im writing something in handwriting and one of the letters turned out perfect, i have to scribble over it and make it look bad.

i feel like if i dont do these things, something bad will happen to me.

Hey Adelina,

Everyone is like this to an extent. I think that we all have little things like that we feel the need to do for some reason or another. So you're definitely not the only one. If you feel that you do these things so often that they are taking over your life, or that you are honestly afraid not to do them, then it might be something a little bit more serious. If it's serious, then you should know it without having to question yourself. If you do think that it's serious, then you should talk to a professional.

Hey there,

I think that we all have a bit of this in us but I think for some people it can go into a state of obsession. If it bothers you or whatever you should try to challenge yourself. If you think 'I need to wash 2 times.' Fight it and only do it once.

I have this problem. I like even numbers. When I am reading I like to finish on page two and not page one or chapter two not chapter three. So if I am feeling the need or want to fight it I stop reading on page three etc. The best way to over come this (if it is something you don't want to do) is by fighting it and resisting it.

Like Amanda said though; if it is not 'ruining' your life or getting in the way of your life it really is probably okay. However, seeing as none of us are doctors you could always consider going to one and talking to them about it. They would know more than any of us do.

I hope this helped and best of luck. If you need anything feel free to pm me.

Like Jenna and NightofNyx have said, everyone gets this to an extent.

I have weird rituals, for example, after I've brushed my teeth, I always have to take five mouthfuls of water: 2 small and 3 big.

It's probably best not to worry about it at this point, but if it starts to get more severe and takes up a lot of your time, then it could be OCD.
