Started Prozac today. -

My doctor put me on Prozac to see if it helps my depression.
I am just wondering if anyone knows some facts about it such as what it will do to my body, will i gain weight, can i smoke weed, will it make things worse... Please help "My life is like a rolling river

Hey there Larrinda,
Prozac is an SSRI and from what I remember they don't really cause any weight gain. So I think you should be fine with that. Doing any type of drug or drinking alcohol while on things like Prozac isn't particularly recommended. There are a lot of different side effects that can occur from prozac such as: -Insomnia -Nausea -Weakness -Headache -Diarrhea -Dry mouth -Anxiety Did your doctor tell you anything about the medicine? Or what type of side effects you should look for and tell him/her about? The best way to get information about Prozac is through your doctor. Although Prozac has some side effects it can really help. I was on it and never experienced any of them and it did help with my depression. I hope this helped and if you need anything else feel free to pm me. Jenna

Im on a fairly high dosage of Prozac, for me it works very well, but it does take a while to kick in to work. But each persons reaction to medication is different. Which is why there are so many anti depressants.

Hey there Larri,
I'm glad that you have been able to talk to a doctor about your depression and that you are willing to try this medication in an attempt to alleviate your depression. I would not recommend smoking weed when you're on Prozac as it may interact. It is possible that you may gain wait due to increased or returned appetite, but it isn't a huge issue with Prozac. I think that you should try and make yourself more aware of the symptoms that Prozac can cause as it does hold quite a few side effects. Reading the leaflet with your medication should help you become more aware. Everyone is different and may have different side effects. I know that when I started the medication, I had increased suicidal thoughts, sleep disturbance, nausea, heightened anxiety and headaches. However, after a few difficult months, the benefits definitely payed off. Take care. |
