Question someone help me - July 23rd 2010, 08:35 PM

hey im almost 17. i live in california and i work at jack in the box as a cashier. ive had the job for 2 months and it has become VERY clear that i am not good at customer service. i just dont like being around people and having to help them. i dont say the right things, i mess up alot, and i struggle with depression so i dont look "happy". my boss is constantly yelling at me and it is making me get really depressed again. (i thought i was over my depression for 3 months). i am going to quit this job because i suck at it and i know my boss will fire me soon if i dont quit. dose any body have any suggestions for a job where i dont have to deal with the general public? im just not a people person. i am a very hard worker tho and im great at physical labor and i enjoy it, but this job would have to be for a minor. any advice would be appreciated

You could do what I do, and i'm only 14.
I work at a local produce store. I help unload the truck and stock the shelves. I clean up closer to the end of the day. Its not alot of money, but its something. I suggest asking around places that have alot to do with unloading and stocking, or cleaning. I mean, I don't know you and I don't know where you live exactly so I don't know your options. I live in a very small town lol. California's probably alot different, duh lol.

Best of luck

Also, make sure your employer is aware of your depression, and what state its in. It might keep them from being extremely harsh to you, Idk.

I'm sorry your job isn't working out for you and your manager is being so harsh. How about a job at a warehouse or doing filing in an office - they're fairly low paid, but you can work in peace without having to deal with customers. Hope this helps a bit.

I worked at Kal Tire and Wallyworld (walmart) tire and lube. It wasn't hard and I didn't have to talk to customers very often so it wasn't bad. There isn't much stress either so that will help the weak nerves. If the greasyness doesn't get to you, you could try that.

Maybe you could work in an animal shelter? That way you could have the companionship without the customer service. You would then get to do some labor as well, cleaning cages, walking dogs, etc.

Anyway, best of luck!

I work in a greenhouse, and the only people I have to deal with are co-workers, but you'd have to anywhere really. So that may be an idea, though it's only seasonal.
