As far as websites go, this is probably your best bet. I'd definitely recommend seeing a professional if you're looking for a diagnosis. To me, chronic depression goes beyond sadness. It usually has a cause, but the cause is often indirect enough that it is difficult to explain. You may have problems with memory and critical thinking, feelings of emptiness or anger, or mood swings. Often, your mood patterns can seem irrational or unrelated to the events around you. Depending on the situation, you can lose interest in life's pleasures, e.g. food, friendship, sex, sports, learning. I spent many an hour sleeping during the day or staring at my bedroom wall simply because I was "bored," but nothing sounded fun. I know this isn't a full description, and I'm sure others can help out -- feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
