Question I just feel... Out. - August 17th 2010, 03:50 AM

I don't know how to put it... Nothings really bad in my life, though I feel... Depressed? I'm not sure how to put it. Not nessisarily "numb" so to speak, but I just feel.. Gone. I don't know why... What wrong with me?

Actually, now that I think of it, I might know why.. My friend is getting abused and confided in me about it, and i feel as though telling the police will betray her, and not telling will.. Hurt her.

But I still feel the same way I did 5 seconds before I relized that. Whats wrong with me!?! I kinda feel like cutting but I havent done that in a few weeks and want to keep it up

Hey there,

There could be a lot of reasons for your depression. It could be due, in part, to the things your friend is struggling with, it could be due to other unresolved issues etc. Sometimes our unresolved issues can cause us to feel overly sad even when nothing to bad is going on. And, sometimes when a person suffers from depression (which I am not a professional so I cannot diagnose you with that) they just tend to have days where they feel down because of it.

Now, the best advice I can give you is that you speak to a counselor, doctor, family member, etc about the way you are feeling. Sometimes talking about things can be really helpful. I know sometimes when I am struggling and I just vent to a friend I feel so much more better. Maybe the same thing will happen with you.

And if you seek out therapy it will give you an objective person to talk to on a more regular basis and that is always a good thing.

Please hang in there and if you need anything feel free to pm me.

The cause of your depression can be related to multiple factors in your life. But in order to untangle the messy knot you are in you might as well start one step at a time. You know one reason why you feel sad, and that is due to the burden of your friend's secret. And I think you friend, whether she vocalizes it or not, confided in you for help. And you have a right to tell a trusted adult about this kind of situation, because it is the best way for her to avoid any future harm. A crush on a classmate is one kind of secret, but any "secret" relating to abuse, self-harm, suicide, is in a whole other ballpark.

Once you untie that end of the problem things may start looking clearer to you. If not that is when you too should confide with a trusted adult about your problem. You deserve to be heard. Encourage this person to just stay by your side and perhaps ask them for intervention with a doctor. There are people in the world with special qualifications and training to deal with exactly your kind of problem; take advantage of it. But until you really make an effort to do so, make a promise not to cut yourself. Once you find that the proper people are helping you through this process then the urge for self-harm may disintegrate to dust. I wish you the best, and if you want someone to talk to I'm just a PM away!
