Sad - September 10th 2010, 08:58 AM

Lately I have been quite sad. The world has become such a terrible place in the last few decades, and when I look back into history I see how nice the world was, and how much I wish I was born 100 before. I see that. The last great time in human history was more then 70 years ago, and I want to be there for it. I wish I was ialive to be there, people were some much better back then, I just feel like the world is useless now. People's ideas, lives, and morality have fell to an al time low. I don't evem want to be in this world anymore.

The world is not a darker place now than in the past. Countless atrocities have been committed on relatively large scales in the past. The biggest issue with remembering or categorizing the past is that it is often tainted with the intentions of the person recalling. That is why the stereotype of the "good old days" exists. People genuinely believe that the past was better than it was. An example would be proud parents. They remember their child's childhood as being a positive thing. They forget how difficult and energy consuming it was to take care of an infant and later a toddler.

The problem with today is not a drop in morality or an increased darkness in the world. The good/evil ratio has been fairly constant from what I see. However, the common man's exposure to such things has risen. The media outlets tend to flock towards the atrocities of the world. One shocking thing after another. When all you look for is darkness, that is generally what you will find.

Walk outside. Depending on your perspective you could see a lot of things. There is a lot of good in this world; you just have to want to find it. If you are having trouble finding it, go out and create some. Good deeds, like many human actions, are memetic; a virus of the mind.
