Right back into it... - December 9th 2010, 03:55 AM

I was in therapy for a couple of years for depression and self-harm, and i'm still on antidepressants and a mood stabilizer. However, I stopped going to therapy around this year because I was doing markedly better (got permission to). I stopped cutting by myself, after I quit therapy. Then I got into a new relationship, and recently lost my best friend. My boyfriend thinks that I should be able to get through this without going back into therapy, but I've been having trouble eating lately. I also sleep too much but am still tired, I have no inclination to be social, and I'm low for no reason which is really frustrating to both me and him. He wants to help but he's not used to arguing with me when I'm low and stubborn. I'm scared shitless because this is getting closer to where I used to be, and I don't want anyone to have to deal with that.

I need to know, can I just get over this by myself? Or if I let my friends/boyfriend in? I don't want to go back to therapy, to admit that I've fallen down again...also no one near my college accepts my health insurance.

Advice, please..

When you say "never", I'll say "lie"
When you say "always", I'll say "true"
When you say "love", I'll say "you"
I'll say "you"

It gets better.

Melissa,

I am glad that you have reached out and I hope that we are able to help you. I think it would do you a lot of good to let your friends and family in on this struggle. You shouldn't have to deal with this all alone so if there are people in your life that you trust let them in. Battling depression on your own is never an easy thing and the more support you can get the better.

I would also suggest that you look into therapy. I know that you might not want to but there is nothing wrong with seeking a little extra help. The way I view it is it is better to get help now before you fall really really far. If the people around you don't take your insurance maybe you could look into the psychological services that your school offers? Go to therapy through them? I know I looked into that at my school and they have a lot of great resources, maybe your school will have similar resources.

You can and will make it through this. We all face set backs at times but the most important thing is that you keep on fighting.

I hope this helped and if you need anything feel free to use teenhelps many resources.

Jenna

Thank you both

I'm settling for just making sure i'm taking medicine every day and asking those close to me to make sure i take care of myself. Like going out to eat with people instead of staying in my room and forgetting. With exams going on, I don't think it's the best time to bother the counseling center but if things get worse I'll look into it for this coming semester.
