Question How long can you feel this way? - December 17th 2010, 02:03 PM

I've been depressed my whole life. And it's only gotten worse. I used to cut, I've tried anti-depressants, I've gone to a therapist, I've tried doing things to get my mind off of it... and nothing helps. I'm always in pain, and I don't know how to get rid of the pain. I've been contemplating suicide for a while now, but I don't know if I can actually go through it. Especially sense I hold one of my best friends together. If i weren't here, than she would have killed herself by now. No one seems to notice that I'm never truly happy, and that this hasn't left my mind. The fact that another friend always talks about how herself doesn't help either. I need someone to talk to, and someone to listen to me and help me not feel this way. Because being depressed since you can remember (age 4) takes a toll on your body and your mind.

Hey there,

Being depressed can definitely take its toll on a person but there is hope. You can overcome this and get to a better place.

I know you said you tried therapy but maybe you should give that another shot. Therapy really can work it just takes time and you have to be completely hones with the doctor. The more honest you are with them the better able they will be to help you. It can take a while to build up trust with a therapist and that is okay but what helps with building up trust is slowly working on opening up to the therapist.

Do you think you could sit down and talk to your parents about the way you are feeling? Sometimes it seems like people don't realize we are struggling but a lot of time they just don't know how to help us. If you sit down and talk to your parents they can help you get the help you deserve. Also, sometimes we hide our depression so well that people really cannot see it. Instead of hiding it try opening up to your parents and let them see that you are struggling. Let them support you through this rough time.

I really hope this helped and if you need anything feel free to use teenhelps many resources.

Jenna

From reading your thread I think that you should give therapy another chance. I can really tell that you want help and you really want to be happy. You should really exprese these feeling to your therapist and tell them about your thoughts of suicide and let that person know that your previous therapy sessions and anti-depressant didnt help. good luck
