Exclamation My mask of happiness - April 29th 2011, 02:25 AM

Today I relized as I was forcing laughter with my best friend at a funny joke, that I dont feel it. i feel angry and hurt and upset and fed up. But I laugh and joke and fake the feelings without relizing it. I suddenly noticed it when my firend burst into more laughter and I didnt even feel like it but I did anyway, so she wouldnt ask anything. Whats the point of hoing my emotions? why do we do that? I dont want to anymore, even if it means being mad all the time. But thats means, by not running away from my emotions, for once ill have to face them....help?

I do the same thing. Hold it all in.

I think it has something to do with shame, or not wanting to push our feelings onto other people, burdening people we care about.

People with depression a lot of the time admit to faking a smile, putting on a mask.. That way other people dont have to feel or suffer, the way they do. Another reason i think its hard for some people to open up to therapists.. just one of my thoughts though.

I know what you mean though, at one point you will have to face your emotions. everyone does, at some point or another. You need to get to the root of why your feeling that way, to fix the whole problem.

If you're not already, id suggest seeing a therapist. Having someone help work through those issues with you can really help you, and you'll be thankfull in the long run.

Open up to someone about what is causing you to have those feelings. Other people knowing will force you to deal with your emotions, because no matter how much you or anyone else may want to, you can't hide them forever.
