Unhappy Did I do the right thing? - May 3rd 2011, 10:23 PM

Today my best friend finally let me look in her notebook during lunch. Mostly it was just full of sad pictures she drew, but in the cover flap were a bunch of folded up pieces of paper
She let me read what was on them, and they were her diary.
They were dated at the top, and they seemed to get sadder as she went on.
There were a couple where she admitted to self harming, and i took one of those, and one drawing she made.
After lunch i went to the school councler and i told her what happened and showed her the notes. She promised me she'd take care of it from there.
So...did I do the right thing? Or did I betray my friend?

You made a call. You made your decision, and the best you can do is stick to it. Now, as for whether what you did is right or wrong depends on how you view it: in the short term, you might harm your friendship. In the long term, you've potentially saved her from a lot of further grief and pain. Stay strong!

Getting help for someone is NOT betrayal. I know it feels like it is, but it's NOT. She may not realize it, but you've given here one of the best gifts possible--love.

You can always contact me to talk about anything!

Your friend is being sexually abused, is it betrayal to seek help? Hell no. Same with this situation. She wouldn't have let you see such things if she didn't want help, she's probably too scared to seek it alone. You did good.
