Question No One Believes Me - May 9th 2011, 10:32 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I am 17. A junior in high school. I have always struggled with depression but my family just put it down to sadness(they still do). But it has went past that point. I have suicidal thoughts. I have put the knife to my skin and someone has always called and I would have to put it down and do it later. But everytime I am interupted. Lately I have taken to scraping my nails down my arms and scratching them until they are raw. I have a anxiety problem, a stress disorder and panic attacks. But still my family says there is nothing wrong with me. When I mention getting help they say they can't afford to ruin their repuation or the image they have projected of me. Since I am only 17 I dont know what to do about getting help.

School councilors are your friends. They will see how you're mind works and if apropriate, seek help. I'm sorry your family is like this, I give you my well wishes.

Im not sure how it works in your state but were I leave you can get help on your own because they are not allowed to tell your parents about what yall talk about unless you have a plan to kill yourself.

you are always
stronger than you think you are
braver than you have ever been
better than you could ever be

perhaps you could try pinpointing the root of these thoughts? the thing that is troubling you, go confront it. live courageously other coping mechanisms include screaming in your pillow, doing homework, reading, it really can help to divert attention by giving your life new meaning

you are never alone!

Your 17... almost 18. I would try and get moved out when you turn 18. If that's what your parents are going to tell you then it sounds like you can't really rely on them for help. They by no means should be telling you that AT ALL! You do have school counselors that you can talk. Explain to them what is going on. They can find you ways to get more professional help. There are many programs that you can join that support and help teens and youth with depression and suicidal problems. These programs will also help you receive that professional help that you need. Or even just joining a community activity. Sounds as if you need to really just separate yourself from the shall I say toxic unsupportive home that you are around everyday. Just whatever you do don't held in that anger. It wont benefit anything. release it. Exercising to get rid of all that bottled up negative energy. You are old enough now that you have to start thinking souly on yourself and what will help you become the person you want to be. Be selfish! That's why human are put on this earth! You already know you want the help because you made the first step by saying something even though you got shot down. But do not stop there! Keep going! For yourself! Good luck and you have all of us here at TeenHelp to love and support your journey!
