What are they like? - May 22nd 2011, 03:29 PM

Pschiatric hospitals? for depression/suicidal thoughts? I was considering admitting myself a few months ago. I'm fine now but I'm just wondering.

they are not at all wat you think. usually you get up around like eat breakfast and then have around 30 min to get ready, shower etc... afterwards you have school, break, school, then lunch then school til like 2 and then you get free time. after tat you have group where usually you talk for half the time then meet one on one with the counsellor or staff member. in the evening you usally have relax time to do whatever, visit with you family etc... then you have closing group. some nights you have things like cook night where you make your own meals, you get passes (privilages) to go out for the afternoon, weekends. ummm lets see. the food sucks. :P anything else you wanna know?

You are only usually admitted to a psychiatric ward as a last resort. They won't just admit you because you want to be. You have to be very unwell and unable to be managed in the community anymore. I have been to a few different wards that have been very different. One thing about them all though is that the environment can be really unsettling because people are really ill and sometimes do just kick off. It can be helpful in keeping you safe and getting over that crisis you are in. They normally did lots of different groups during the day and you would have an allocated nurse who you could talk to if you wanted to.
