High confidence, low self esteem - July 28th 2011, 03:29 AM

I recently realized I have a low self esteem while having high confidence and realized how many problems branch out from this. How can I build my self esteem. the worst part about it is that I dont like talking about not having self esteem to my friends or family even though I trust them. Please help if you can

Have you tried looking for any places in your area to volunteer? Church, hospital, elders home, etc? Helping others can make one feel better about themselves.

You can always contact me to talk about anything!

hmm. have you figured out exactly what it is about yourself that you don't like? because if you make an effort to change your feelings towards that it would probably be helpful.

searching for myself...

@Chris- yeah actually many of what you had stated. I have volunteered at a few places including environment clean up organizations, retirement homes, church, and other things but I dont find it enough especially compared to what some of my friends have been able to do. It kind of hurts to think about it but I have friends who have helped at real hospitals, fire depts, police stations, and in ambulances but I cant find myself to be as generous or caring with my time. instead I waste the time I have either doing hw, studying, working, or talking with friends.

@bailatyvm- I dont actually "hate" myself but I do hate characteristics that I posses or feel that I posses like laziness, ungenerosity, the fact that I feel a distant and cold bond between my mother, not having time, having a feeling of underachievement and a few other things. I feel like the combo of confidence but low self esteem is pinning me to a wall... where any and everything I do makes me feel worse because I could have done something better or give myself something harder to accomplish. The only piece of self esteem I posses is keeping good friends and helping them but unfortanetly not being able to help myself. Especially knowing that many others have it worse than I do, much worse.

The thing is I know atleast some of the things I think of myself arent true because people tell me the opposite with out me mentioning it to them. I think what my problem is is just that I dont ever keep a constant feeling of thinking I am "good enough"
