Too crazy to go away? - March 20th 2009, 01:59 AM

Okay , so I've got a community work trip to Thailand organised for later this year...but the thing is, the charity I'm going with seemed concerned about all things "mental".

I got discharged from regular therapy a couple of months ago and have been (mostly) of meds for as long...but I feel as if things might be getting out of control again. I'm just worried they wont let me go if I go back to treatment.

I can see where they're coming from. If I were to freak out and do something stupid out in the middle of the jungle then the charity can be held responsible for it. And I don't know if I'm going to be able to manage without alcohol for a month, which could increase chances of this happening.

This trip is really important to me and I don't want to let anyone down, but there's definately something going wrong at the moment.

Gah, I don't know if this makes sense, but any response would be welcome!

Hi Stevie,

Well, I think if you need treatment, you should get it as soon as possible. Ignoring this so that you will be allowed on the trip and then something happening because of it would be horrible. If you take care of it now, then there is probably a good chance that by the time the trip happens, you'll be fine again and ready to go and enjoy it.

I also think that it'd be best if you tried to cut down on, or even stop, your alcohol consumption. Stopping cold turkey on the trip would not be easy, so make it a gradual change.

Hope this helped, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me.

Good luck!

Hey Stevie,
If you need treatment then you are best to get it, because not getting it is not going to help you. I can understand that you would be worried about now being able to go on the trip if you went back into therapy, but you need to think about yourself here. Your health is the most important thing, and I think if you went back into therapy and got better then there wouldn't be a reason why you can't go on this trip. Also if you got help then you might be able to find other ways to cope instead of turning to alcohol. That way you would be able to cope on the trip where you wouldn't be able to drink. Have a think about it :-)
