Does anyone else ever feel guilty for telling someone else they're depressed?? - September 30th 2011, 06:51 PM

I'm feeling a bit shitty this evening, no idea why (although it's better than it was earlier.) anyway because I wasn't being very sociable my boyfriend thought I was angry at him, and I think he got a bit pissed off at me...anyway he rang me to see if I was ok and I ended up crying on the phone like a loser and telling him it was just cos I was feeling down, and now I feel so stupid about it. he's really brillient to me and he's really supportive of me feeling down sometimes and really tries to help but i'm really really worried he thought I just said that to him so he'd be nice to me or something. I just feel really guilty about it now and like i was attention seeking or something. even though telling people i'm feeling down makes me feel better afterwrds i always feel so guilty about it....is that normal?? :/

I literally do that all the time. Whenever my boyfriend notices me being a bit quiet, he thinks I'm annoyed at him and I tell him no, I just feel a bit low. However it's a bit different for me because he says I'm annoyed at him everytime I'm quiet so I've gotten to the point of yelling at him saying it's not all about him and I sometimes I just feel low for whatever reason. I feel bad for telling him that but it's the truth. But anyways, I know how you feel. xx

I can understand. When I tell people i'm feeling depressed I then feel guilty that the person might then worry about me. I wouldn't want them to worry, it's just nice to know you have that sort of support from someone. I think from being accused of being attention seeking by 'friends' in the past, it's hard to let people know without worrying what they're going to think. You're not alone x

I feel guilty every time I tell somebody I'm depressed. I shouldn't be depressed. My life is better than most people's in the world. I have anything I ever need. I feel selfish, spoiled, and crazy for being unhappy. Which is why...three people know. Besides you guys on TeenHelp of course.

I do that a lot too. You don't really have to feel that way. i mean yeah it happens, life gets like that. yeah sure i feel that way sometimes, but I can't let it get the best of me.
