Question question fo anyone here curently/previously in therapy? - November 5th 2011, 03:44 AM

ok, so i think it's about time i see a therapist. i cant spend more than about an hour at most without thinking about SOME sort of suicide method. i have self harmed in the past and am starting to do it again, and i REALLY dont wanna go back to the point where i was before. i have anxiety problems, eating problems, depression, self image problems, severe trust issues, you name it and i TRIED talking to my mom about it, but she won't listen.
First she told me that if i "really thought it was nessisary, she isn't going to deny me therapy" and she said to think about it and i have to go to her and ask her, and tell her all the reasons. then like 2 days later i (non-directly) brought it up. and she was like "ARE YOU SERIOUS!? DO YOU REALLY WANT THERAPY?! YOU DON'T NEED IT YOU IDIOT" me and her don't get along real well and she does things like that constantly.
another problem is that i CAN'T tell her why i need it. she knows i used to cut myself. hell, when i went to the hospial a year ago for mono, the docto say the marks and told my mom she should take me to a therapist.
i'm 16 by the way. so does anyone know how i can ask her to please take me to a therapist in a way that she won't get totally pissed and i can actually DO?
thanks in advance <3

if you go to school can you see the school counsellor and then get them to maybe ring up your mum and help ask her for you

Do you think you could try to find a place to go to therapy yourself? Look online, and tell your mom that you need to go to therapy. I hope she'll realize you need it. <3

well i dont like the guidance counselors in my school but my school has more than them my school has student advocates wich are therapists and a school psycologist and theyre really helpful and your mom doesnt even have to know how often you see them in my school they only call your parents if you say your gonna hurt your self and once they call your parents once about it you can keep going back and they wont call again unless you hurt yourself badly

If you're 16 I assume you can drive soon, or have friends that can. There are loads of free therapy groups all over the place, mostly located in hospitals. You can either get help there, or they can help you find an individual therapist. Just search up websites of hospitals you know are around, St. Johns Mercy for example, and see if you can't find groups there.

Or, see if you can't get SOME sort of adult to help talk to your parents. That's what I did, I had my boyfriend's dad help me talk to my mom and all of a sudden she took it more seriously.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.
