Do you have a specific friend in mind? One that you feel that you can trust with your feelings and who will be open to listening to you?

Hi there.
I think telling friends can be really hard. Not because you should be ashamed or embarrassed but because depression can actually become really personal to the person suffering with it. Do you have a specific friend in mind or are you wanting to tell a group of friends? Either way, with the, being your friends I would expect them to simply try and understand and not judge you for it and be there for you. They are you friends and I am sure they care about you and love you for you. Telling someone who you're close to can be great because it means you have someone there to support you even if that's just taking you out for the afternoon because you need to be distracted. Depression isn't who you are and you shouldn't have to hide it or anything. I hope that it all goes well for you ![]() Jessie 'You don't always have to be positive, but you need to put things into perspective.' - 17/5/12 Selfharmforummod| MentalHealthforummodlHelpLinkmentor|Blogmod|LiveHelpoperator|Depressionandsuicideforummod |

I've told a few of my friends about my depression, and if you want to tell several friends, I think you should tell them each separately. Everyone reacts differently to hearing this kind of thing and you should take that into consideration. I don't think your friends will be mad at you, but they may not know how to respond right away. That doesn't mean they don't like you; they are just concerned and may not know what to say. Also, be prepared to do a lot of explaining and answering of questions. That really good that you're going to tell your friends though. That's a difficult thing to do, and you should be proud of yourself for talking to them about it. I hope this helps and good luck.

You don't know what it's like to be like me. Welcome to my life. ~Simple Plan I'm not perfect, but I keep trying. ~Hedley Maybe we'll turn it around, 'cause it's not too late; it's never too late. ~Three Days Grace Nothing's ever easy, and if it is, you're not trying hard enough. The best way to get revenge on someone who has hurt you through the years is to smile at them as though you have never cried any tears. |
