Question Who do I talk to? - April 20th 2012, 09:17 AM

Hi! This is my... 3rd or 4th post. I'm depressed as you would have seen from my earlier post. I want to hurt myself - I feel guilty, but I've done nothing. I've been scratching at my arm to cause myself pain, I can't help it! I don't feel close or comfortable talking to my parents, my friends either don't seem to care or don't know what to do, my teachers and Alyssa's (my best friend) mum are the only other adults I really know - Alyssa's mum is nice but it'd be kinda awkward talking to her about that. And Mr Walters (principal) really seems to care for me, but his office is disturbing to me because... Well just because it's the principal's office lol. Miss Errey, my teacher, would be the one I trust most, but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to tell her how I feel. I will NOT talk to a counsler or a doctor - It makes me feel awkward and uncomfortable. The smiles on their faces and how they write down everything you say it makes me nervous and then I just shrug or say 'I dunno.' What should I do?

Well, I know that you may be scared to tell Miss Errey, or even Mr. Walters, but one thing that you can do that might be able to make it easier on you is write everything down in the form of a letter and tell them that way. This is because you would be able to write EVERYTHING you want to tel them down at once without having to worry about getting too nervous to say anything. Anticipate any questions that the person may have and try to answer them in the letter as well. Then it is as simple as hand delivering the letter, or dropping it on their desk or mailbox, somewhere where it would be easy to find for them. Or you can email them if you know their email address. They would still ask you questions, but it may be easier since you told them everything you want to. Carry the letter with you so you have it close by and have less of a chance of backing out. Remember that it may be scary now, but in the end it is a WONDERFUL first step in getting help and being happy. A support system is always great.

Thanks I hadn't thought of that, it DOES sound alot easier than telling them in person.
