Dog attacking other animals and people in house. - January 28th 2014, 03:54 PM

My brothers dog (who he has had for around two years) had puppies a couple of days ago. Ever since she has had them she attacks everything in the house. She doesn't stay in the room with her pups very often, instead she runs through the house snapping at and biting anything she sees.

Earlier today she nearly killed another dog and even went as far as to attack him after we picked him up, while he was still in my brother's wife's arms.

I have asked a few people online what could be causing this and they have all said it was normal and it would be our fault for not keeping the other dogs away from her, even though she searches for them just to attack.

I have been around countless dogs who were new mothers and have never seen any act like this.

If she is going around and seeking out them to attack, then it is indeed your job to keep her apart from the other dogs. I would agree that is fault on the owner, as if she's being aggressive you shouldn't be allowing her to run around and attack things as she pleases. Personally, I don't believe it is normal behavior after having puppies (I do know some mothers will be a little protective of their pups, but this seems a little over the top; if she even is being protective of them with you saying she doesn't go to the room near them often?) - but I don't have a ton of knowledge basing around this.
