Do You Have Pet Insurance? - December 14th 2015, 11:32 AM

I am wondering if it's a thing to have pet insurance? I have pet insurance for my dog and I recently got it. It's nice to have just in case something were to happen. I pay about $52 a month (my first month is free) and it's the ultra plan.

Some I've seen were around $80 per month for the standard recommended. Others I saw were over $100, some were $65, etc., but thankfully my bank has Pet Insurance so I went with them because I trust my bank. The standard and Ultra is $10 difference and all have the same deductible of $100.

So, do you have Pet Insurance why or why not?

personally I do not have pet insurance. Didn't even know it was a thing, honestly. I guess if you can insure your house, car, phone, you can insure a pet

I don't have a pet anymore but when I did, we didn't have pet insurance on her. We couldn't afford it. I think I'd consider it if I ever got a pet as an adult, depending on what my situation is at the time. It's like medical insurance for your pet basically, right?

I don't have pet insurance for mine, although my sister does for her pets. I think part of the reason was that when I got my pets they were technically my mother's and pet insurance wasn't something she'd done with her pets (I'm pretty sure the idea never even occurred to her). I may consider it for future pets, but at the moment I'm comfortable just having an emergency fund for those rainy days (which I have had to dip into on occasion).

I don't have pet insurance. With the exception of one of our pets, they are all relatively healthy. I have five pets I could get insurance for but that's a lot of animals and it would probably be a lot of money, too.

I don't have pet insurance for my three cats. They all are relatively healthy. My middle cat has chronic eye infections, but I get his medicine like twice a year for a small amount of money. I don't foresee any other issues appearing, and if so, I would deal with it without insurance, I guess.

I don't have pet insurance either. We read over a pamphlet in our vet's office a few months ago and they did some research but didn't think it was all that great of an idea for us at least. All of our pets are relatively healthy and we have the means to pay out of pocket for vet visits and vaccines as well as if something was to happen like an emergency surgery, illness, etc. My parents worked out the numbers and what we would pay per month for all of our pets for insurance would be pretty close to what we would pay of one of our pets got sick/needed surgery if that makes sense.
That said, we did look into it and we got a quote done on what it would cost/what we would get and such when my old boy first got sick about four years ago. It wasn't worth it though since we were looking at paying $157.96 per month (since he was old, and his health issues) which worked out to be $40 cheaper then what his medication and prescription food was per month, so my parents decided against it.

When I move out, and get pets of my own, I don't think I would get it either. I would personally just keep a rainy day fund that I would put the same amount of money in per month as if I had insurance. That way I could use the money for other things that might come up.

I don't have pet insurance, I also didn't realize it was a thing. Some of them seem really pricey so I'm not sure it's really worth it unless you know your pet has health concerns.

Would pet insurance cover an iguana? I don't have an iguana. I'm just curious.

Wow I guess I'm the only person with pet insurance. It's only really because he gets sick really easily and can also gain and lose weight really fast so we sort of need it to cover vet bills when he is sick. And he seems to like getting infections and stuff so that's another reason. I never knew people didn't have it.

I have Pet Insurance
I didn't realize either that there isn't many who do. When I go to the vet, I would say 50/50 or 60/40 people have it and request the vet to fax the information to their insurance.

I don't have any insurance for my rats. The vet costs are relatively small so it's cheaper to just pay when issues arise.

If I had a pet such as a dog I think I would opt to get insurance and unexpected treatment for them costs a lot more and I probably wouldn't be able to afford it.

I don't have Pet Insurance as my dog has been relatively healthy.

He's older now so I guess there's no point now haha.
