My eight legged friend. - September 21st 2016, 04:59 PM

Not really my pet, but a little guy I've known for quite some time and sometimes throw my house flies on their web when I can.

This spider's name is Charlotte and they are currently residing outside my bedroom window. I have entomophobia (all insects), but as long as there is a layer of glass between us we are friends. They used to live on the large plant outside my backdoor, but maintenance men have since chopped it down and they relocated. I had never seen them this up close. Charlotte is 3 inches (7.5-ish cm) long and 1.5 inches (3.8-ish cm) wide. So a big one. They've been living around my house for all of this summer now, given it is the same spider. Though, I have not seen others like Charlotte around here.

Charlotte is actually a light brown color with stripes, but with the sun shining behind them it made them much darker. Also quite hairy.

Okay I can't stand spiders which is hilarious living in Australia and all, so I'm very impressed you have managed to live with it so far. It looks very interesting though. I'm not even going to question why you named it, but Charlotte is a pretty cool name. Let's just say, it's probably a good thing you haven't seen others like Charlotte around.

No but. A gigantic wasp flew into Charlotte's web and she got right to it, spun it in a bit of web, and threw it out of the web to the ground. It was so cool, but also so scary. I wonder if it landed on my patio or got out of the web.

I hate spiders but they are handy for eating bugs. Creative name though. (Charlotte's Web)

If you reallllllllly enjoy Charlotte's company, I can send you my brother's tarantula.

Fun fact: spiders aren't insects. Maybe the extra two legs are what make it okay. Regardless, Charlotte is pretty cool, and it's nice to see a "pet" of a different kind in the forum. Thanks for sharing.

That is one big spider and it is pretty damn awesome. I hope it sticks around as they eat a lot of unwanted bugs.

I'm thinking that is what my mother meant by naming the spider Charlotte. I mean, we also have an all black cat named Salem (and another one named Shadow). She goes with the trends.

Nope, I wouldn't want that thing hanging out by my house. The glass does help though.

Holy crow big spider, but at least it's a badass wasp killer. Maybe that makes it all right.

Spiders are quite useful animals! I, myself, have eight of them on my front porch.

Charlotte looks adorable!

Resilient
1. (of a person or animal) able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.
2. (of a substance or object) able to recoil or spring back into shape after bending, stretching, or being compressed.

We all possess resilience, we just need to realize it.

That is very cool. Not a fan of spiders if they're near me but if there's glass then it's cool
