Post all your unusual pets.

I recently bought a freshwater mussel and placed it in my fishbowl. Planning to get more though. His name is Mr Muscle

Re: Unusual pets - December 28th 2016, 01:54 PM

I don't know if they're considered unusual, but I have hermit crabs. I have four medium purple pinchers (large end of the medium measurements) in one tank. I have twelve, soon to be thirteen, micros (dime sized or smaller) in another tank.

One of the medium ones is molting, so I can't move them. But, when he surfaces, my plan is to move them to a larger tank so I can add a few more. I, ideally, would like a few Ecuadorian or strawberry crabs but they are hard to find and if I can't find them at any exotic pet stores, I'll have to special order them somehow.

I also recently got two lizards from someone who could no longer keep them, though I don't know if lizards are an unusual pet either.

For a while I wanted a tarantula and I still want one but I don't think my mom is a fan of that idea. Maybe eventually.

I've had common pets in the past. I have had dogs, gerbils, budgies, and a fish. Currently, I just have a dog.

I do want a parrot or an exotic bird. At one point I wanted a peacock.

I had two hermit crabs as a kid. I also had hamsters when I was little, but I don't think that's considered an unusual pet.

My brother has a tarantula (that remains in his room), bearded dragon and we used to have hermit crabs. I'm not sure if it counts but we have a pond with koi and turtles and in one of our fish tanks we have a red bellied pacu.

Re: Unusual pets - December 28th 2016, 09:58 PM

I've had two rats in the past. Sherlock and Phillip. Sherlock died about a week after I got him, and Phillip was kind of his replacement. Now that I think about it I was pretty quick to replace him. Sorry Sherlock. They were nice pets though. My sister had one too, and he was pretty nice. Phillip and him got along quite well and they were fun to play with.

We also had a snake too. It was a little weird, and I didn't play with it much, as it was my sisters and I was young and probably couldn't care for it/be careful with the poor thing.

I have 3 pet rats and my house mate has two snakes and a monitor lizard. She also used to have a sugar glider but she died only a few days after she got her home.

If I have children and they want a tarantula they will be out of luck. I hate spiders and tarantula's freak me out. Although, at one time I lived in a mountain area and every October we got these brown tarantulas. My grandma killed one at one point (She didn't really know what they were just saw a huge spider) and I got so mad at her. The tarantula's we got weren't poisonous though and I had a friend who picked them up. My boyfriend wants an iguana at some point or a bearded dragon. I told him we could get one but if it gets out he has to find it immediately.

My niece used to have rats and she said they are friendly. I've contemplated getting one but IDK it kind of creeps me out. I am a bit of a chicken.

Re: Unusual pets - January 5th 2017, 09:58 PM

I don't have one now, but I would love a spiny leaf insect. My sister had one once and I just thought it was a really cool, fun pet. The only problem is that nowhere seems to sell them anymore so I'm not sure where I'd get one from.

We have heaps of spiny leaf insects here! They are pretty freaky but cool looking. They have amazing hiding skills. My friend has about 16 pairs and she breeds them. If you lived here, you could have them

My mom has always wanted a hedgehog and I wouldn't object, but I don't know if that's really unusual?

I'm so jealous. They were all the rage here a few years ago but then they kind of went out of fashion and now it's so hard to track them down.

Oh my goodness I really want one of those! I was looking into them and they're 300$ or so just for the hedgehog. They are so cute though. I want to research them and save some money and maybe get one or two a few years from now.

When I was younger I had some Madagascar hissing cockroaches. There were a few that almost lived five years!
