Question Need Help With A Fish Setup - June 7th 2009, 04:58 PM

I'm getting fish. Because I can't have a snake or anything close to it. My roommates, including the kids wouldn't allow it.

I looked at some articles online, but I think It's setup for a huge aquarium. I'm probably getting a hexagon tank that lights up rainbow colors. But as far as anything else goes, I don't know what to get.

P.S. I'm not getting a Betta/Siamese Fighting Fish.

I think angel fish are lovely and the ones that look like "Nemo" (Out of the film). Maybe you could get some of those? You could always just go to the shop and look at them to see which ones look good

The tank sounds beautiful. Do you have any idea how many gallons it is? If so, that would make it easier to select fish. I know it is going to be small, but that really doesn't narrow it down. I'm sure we have different ideas of small. How many fish are you looking to have? This site has some information about having a small tank.

Re: Need Help With A Fish Setup - June 10th 2009, 06:30 PM

Hmm, one gallon doesn't seem like it'll hold much, from my information. I've only ever had betas and goldfish. My sister did the research and bought the tanks, so I don't know much about them. We have a goldfish pond, so there isn't much to figure there. However, I've done a bit of reading online about the one inch of fish per gallon rule. From my understanding, if you have a gallon of water your fish needs to be an inch long or less. I found this to be pretty interesting, if you can understand the logic behind it.

I searched on Yahoo Answers and the general consensus was that a one gallon tank is really too small for any type of fish.

one gallon per inch of (fully grown) fish.
So if you have a two gallon tank, you get two inches of fish. You could have three or four neons, they are really pretty! and they're cheep too!

I was thinking about bubble-eyed goldfish. I really like their fins.

That would be cute, but you'll only be able to have one of them, it might get lonely...

Well, that kind of fish is about an inch and a half long as an adult, so if you got two, it could be too crowded...

It would be a good idea to look into different fish and different tanks. If you are sure you want the goldfish, then look into a bigger tank. It is better to have a bigger tank than to have things too crowded.

Why not a ten gallon tank? It's only $20 more expensive, but 8 gallons larger. Worth it, if you ask me.

Yeah. If any of you can find me multi colored LED lights for a fishtank, that would be wonderful!

Like so? Or? Google is your best bet, if those aren't what you're looking for.
