Meet Midnight! - June 19th 2009, 01:37 AM

This is Midnight, a 25 year old cross breed (of what I'm not so sure). She's so special to me and is one of the first horses I had ever ridden. I started taking lessons on her when I was 15. She was my first trot, and my first canter. I fell in love with her instantly she's so amazing. She's spent 20 years of her life as a lesson horse at the barn I ride at. Unfortunately she's not mine. Every summer I lose contact with her because my riding instructor has too many shows to go to and a camp to run so she can't give lessons. Usually in October I pick up with lessons again but I'm really worried about this upcoming year because with Midnight being so old she doesn't have as many years left on her. I'm really afraid I'll go back in the fall and learn that she has passed on which will break my heart not being able to say goodbye. Not long ago I went back to the barn after having two weeks off and I found out that the other mare I used to ride, Ruby had died of a heart attack. It hit me like a brick hearing the news and when it happens to Midnight I don't even know if I will be able to get out of bed for days I'll be so depressed. I wish this mare was my own. She's always been a little star and kind of an oddball. She was born completely black, then turned gray and now she has a spotted coat on her so she's pretty unique in my mind. Midnight loves to spend her days running through the pasture with her friends getting all dirty and getting hugs. If I could I'd lay with this mare in her stall for hours. I never thought I'd form such a strong bond with a horse I didn't even own. I hope to have a horse of my own soon but with a lack of money I can't afford it. My dreams are to own a big stable with plenty of horses just like Midnight. What can I say, I'm a dreamer.

Anyways, here are some snapshots of her:

I really hope all of the pictures work. xD Isn't she pretty?!

Aww, she's pretty!!
I know what it's like to share a bond with a horse, and how hard it is when they're not yours.
I still remember my first horse I rode, her name was Allura. She was old, and I haven't ridden in awhile, so I don't know if she's still around anymore, but she'll always remain special to me. The other horses I've ridden are special to me too, but there's just something about that first horse.
Hopefully Midnight will be around for awhile longer, she sounds amazing. Is there any way you can go to the barn and visit her? The stable I rode at would let me go in and feed all the horses carrots, the horses loved it!

She looks gorgeous .
I have my own horses now, but before that, I used to get lessons on other peoples horses and it was always hard to not get really attached to them.
Try not to worry about her too much, she looks really healthy and good for her age from the pictures, and many horses can live well into their 30's if they're well looked after .
