Kitten Advice! -
July 5th 2009, 07:45 PM
So my 18th is coming up in like, 38 days (not counting or anything), and I really want a Kitten. My step-dad is so anti-animal and I hate it. Now, next doors Kitten seems to love coming into our house everyday so we've even started to feed her and let her sleep round ours and stuff (our neighbours are well nice). My Mum is starting to like the idea of a cat/kitten and I was trying to convince her to get my one for my 18th. She liked the idea and we even started to think of names etc.
I was told that cos of my anxiety and depression, having an animal around might help my recovery as it's something I know I need to stay strong for, this is another reason why my Mum likes the idea of a kitten as my life has been pretty tough recently. I am still trying to convince her, so my problem is, how can I fully convince her that I can look after a cat? I am mature enough too and I will do anything to look after a little kitten. It's something I really want, I'll even do the puppy dog eyes if my Mum says no

Well you guys are definitely right in that kittens help with anxiety
and stress and all that. They give you something to care for/love, that you wouldn't otherwise have. And, if you do have trouble convincing her, keep in mind that cats are fairly easy to keep. Kittens are obviously something a little bit different, because they a lot more upkeep and love. But it's definitely not something that a girl going on 18 can't handle. It's been awhile since my cat's been a kitten, so I can't give a lot of useful tips. But you guys can always invest in a couple of kitten care books just to be safe. And even if you can't get a kitten, full grown cats are always great too. Good luck! ps. Would you be getting one from a shelter? Just curious.

Yeah, animals do help a lot and they are great companions! I would just recommend that you should not entirely depend on them for comfort at your lowest points. They do sense something is wrong, and some do sit next to you and give you company as comfort, but some may just want to leave you alone (to me, because they don't know how to help). But having a kitty will give you something to keep your mind off of yourself and taking care of animals is so rewarding! I really hope you are able to get a kitten or a cat!
When or if you do, I'm very interested in what type of kitty you are looking for! I love medium to long hair kitties or tabby cats Calico colors are purdyy toooo..
I want to get inside your mind; I want you to expand mine. |

Animals give you a sense of responsibilty. I found that when I got my kitten, as well as falling in love, I cared for him & he responded well. It gave both my confidence, anxiety and depression. & Know he loves me, so we have each other. Kittens are brilliant, I would say that Im completetly bias when it comes to cats

Aww don't hide away only leads to more upset and you may find yourself much worse off later in life.
Fight for your cat girl ! Just make sure it's not an evil cat , my cat has attempted to kill me 2 times now ![]() Bring up the responsibility story of how you will learn it better ect ect But really good luck ![]() Ps: Just make sure he/she is not evil....that really sucks. "Knowing truth

What I tried to do to convince my mom into letting us get cats was first we started fostering. Your local animal shelter may have a foster program where you watch over nursing mothers and kittens just until they are old enough for adoption. It is great because all the supplies are paid for and if they get sick or anything it is taken care of. You only keep them around 2 months enough time to show you parents you can take care of them without having to keep them forever.
