Question Is there something wrong with my cat? - July 7th 2009, 06:40 PM

He acts how he normaly acts, he eats and drinks normaly, and is his normal self, purring, meowing.

Only thing wrong is that he has started not to use his litter tray...he wees everywhere.....he has been fine for 2 years...but all of a sudden he isn't.

What could be wrong?

Re: Is there something wrong with my cat? - July 8th 2009, 07:54 PM

We had a couple cats go through this, years ago, and I believe the diagnosis was a UTI, though considering I was only young, I can't be too sure of my memory. We no longer have one of the cats, however, the other is on a special food for cats who get urinary tract infections, and we no longer have an issue with how often he uses the litter pan.

There could be a number of reasons, it's not definite that it's a medical condition. If it were a medical condition, it could be what Claire suggested, or maybe for some reason the cat has some sort of pain while he's going to the bathroom? If that were the case then maybe he's started to associate the litter box with pain, and therefore isn't willing to use it. I'd try some general things first - try buying a different kind of litter than you usually do, or change the location of the litter box. The cat might need more bonding time, maybe try playing with him more so he feels happier. If nothing that you try works, though, you might want to get him an appointment with the vet, as it might be a medical problem.

My cat does the same thing. Every since we got a new dog shes been showing out and using the bathroom on the floor instead of the litterbox. Did you get a new pet or something along those lines? Or maybe he dosent think your giving him enough attention so hes showing out.

If you have used a new cleaner on your floors, or the litter box, he may be trying to mak his territory?

I think it was something to do with new cat litter, becaue since I put in his regular cat litter he has been fine (Touch wood)

First question I thought I would ask is is your cat fixed? You said its a boy right? Well if he isn't fixed the peeing all over the place could be his marking territory(my boy cat did that until we got him fixed).

If he is fixed than the other suggestion would probably be better ones. As for the cat litter that could definitely be the problem; cats are very particular animals and if they don't like something(new litter) they will act out until they either get used to it or you fix it (at least thats how my cats were)

Good luck and hope everything works out.

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today
