No offense, but that is horrible advice.
Hermit crabs come from a humid environment an need between 70-80 % humidity. They need fruits, veggies, nuts, and meat to survive. In the wild, they are scavengers, therefore omnivorous.
They need dechlorinated fresh and salt water.
There is so much work needed to take care of them, I'll let this site explain...

We've had them before. Pet stores and some stores in the mall (EarhBound & Co. or Romancing the Stone) have materials and things for Hermit Crab care.

They do need to be in humid environements. They need to be kept in a little crate or tank. You need to fill it with sand or gravel. There is special hermit crab food, as well as treats. Be sure and put extra shells in their tanks- they need shells to switch into when they get bigger. So bigger shells are a must. They might not accept the shell though, as they are picky homeowners.

Also get a little shell to keep water and food in. You should also probably decorate their cages as well.

If they pinch you, don't freak out. They let go eventually.

I hope this helps!

I've never had any hermit crabs, but my cousin has. He kept them in a tank and fed them hermit crab food, along with other things. I don't know much about them, other than they have to change shells often. So, you need to have extra shells in the cage.

This website basically covered everything, like the temperature of the cage, etc. There is a lot more than I expected, actually!

Well, in that case, good job.
That's more than a lot of people I know could tell you...
:P

EDIT--Make sure the poor creatures aren't in a critter keeper. They need at least a 10 gallon aquarium. PM me for detailed care...

You should use this site/ forum .. http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com

I had hermit crabs for years..and this place has great information on their care. Hermit crabs need good care in order to thrive and live a happy life.

FWIW, some of the care will depend on if they are aquatic or terrestrial hermit crabs. I'm guessing they are aquatic, but it's worth asking. The one I had growing up as a terrestrial species.
