silly birds... -

Alright, so when my whole depression / I'm alone / potential suicide thought process started, I was really down on myself. I felt like I had nothing to live for, so one of my friends suggested finding something to live for.
I now own 2 parakeets that are fully my responsibility. these birds are quite possibly the cutest things in the world. one is bluish-silver, and named Ika. the other is White and black and named Lena. Ika is pretty level headed. she will chirp when she is happy, and be quiet when she is not. Lena, on the other hand, will be quiet when she is happy, and screech if she is not. You would imagine this would get on my nerves, but whenever Lena starts getting too loud, Ika will go over and preen Lena (rub her feathers with her beak) until she calms down. I love these two, and taking care of them has given my life a purpose. I can no longer think about suicide when I know that these two wouldn't get their daily food and water. I suppose there really isn't much point to this post, but if you are ever down on yourself, try getting a pet if you feel responsible enough. It has changed my life. |

I am glad that your pets were able to help you. I know my pets have helped me through some rough times too.

I am happy to hear that. I have two parakeets myself and, while the get on my nerves from time to time with an occasional squawking session, I love watching them play and take care of each other. They are truly beautiful animals, and their singing and chirping brings joy to every one of my days. I am glad such amazing animals could bring some happiness and purpose to yours. =]

that's amazing! i know i would feel really down if i didn't have any pets. i'm not sure about birds (because i've never had one) but cats and dogs are great!
