Pet Shelters -
October 8th 2009, 12:19 AM
My boyfriend and I have been thinking about adopting a dog.
I volunteer at a cat shelter, that is a no-kill no cage facility. It's quite nice. But I had been thinking about shelter qualities. I have been in bad shelters looking for lost cats in the past where I just wanted to sulk the rest of the day because of the quality care animals are in. While I enjoy volunteering at my pet shelter, it makes me feel bad sometimes as I know there are other shelters who do not have nearly as nice facilities/poor staff. I was thinking of adopting from a shelter that may not be a no-kill facility or with poor conditions.. just to give that dog an escape from there. What do you guys think? Would you want to go to a shelter where you know the animals are treated with optimal care or a shelter where you just feel like you have to take them all home? |

I've been round both kinds, and I can honestly say it was quite upsetting going round the rough one
. For a pet though I'd go to the rough one, simply because your saving one, and ones better than none... Other people might choose to go to the nicer one, but the dogs from the rougher ones are equally as nice
How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing? Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting. |

Rationally, I'd go with the worse one since you'd really be saving an animal. To be completely honest though, just going into that kind of place would make me so horridly depressed I'd spend the next few days crying. I'm not kidding. I love dogs so much going there would just tear me up inside.
