My dog was almost stolen... -
November 10th 2009, 05:08 AM
I realize this is really random and strange, but according to my neighbor the other day my dog was almost stolen by a hawk.
![]() So apparently my dog was outside playing with the neighbor dog, and this mammoth hawk comes swooping down towards my dog, so my neighbor has to yell and scare the thing off. My puppy is only 25 pounds and he's a small breed of dog, so he'll never be much bigger, if he even grows any more. It's really a freak thing because we don't live in an are you would think that kind of thing would happen. So since I have no desire to have my dog taken away and munched on by an over sized bird, I'm just wondering if any of you have had a similar thing happen to you! Should we always keep an eye on the dog outside? He really loves being out there for hours at a time. Or is it safe to just forget about it since it's never happened before...? ![]() ------ Though I walk through the valley of the shadow ofAmanda Panda death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Get the lash of your dog and nail it you the ground.
I have a little puppy and I would be so scared if a ugly hawd took him away, next time have a rock ready to scare him away. Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it. |

I'd still let your dog out but I'd keep a careful out for him more often, check whenever you can or put yourself in a place where you can do whatever your doing and still see him in case it happens again.

Ooh! I has a story!!!
I live in Australia, and when we lived out of town, on this huge property, my mutt Skinny (who is quite a big dog, despite her name) loved to chase the kangaroos. Now, everyone overseas seems to think that Kangaroos are nice and friendly, and that we all have them in our backyards, and ride them to school. Wrong. Roos are mean. one swipe with that powerful tail and you're gone. Also, a nasty habbit that they have is when they're being chased, they'll swim into a dam (don't know what you guys would call it...? like a lake or pond or something) and try to drown their predator. Yes, roos swim, and because their feet/legs/tail are so powerful, this isn't really all that hard. so my dog chased this roo into a dam, which was, luckily, the one closest to our house, and we saw Skinny swimming out after the roo! eeek! So we ran out, screaming her name, telling her to come, screaming it at the top of our lungs (we were really freaked out... the roo nearly had her) and just as the kangaroo turned around to push her under, she turned around to us and started swimming back. The kangaroo did get her, but he only kicked her, which, though it obviously hurt, was not nearly as bad as what could have been. She was fine, sore back for a few days, and felt a bit sorry for herself. but okay, thank goodness. And she learnt a lesson.
