How do I... -

get my dog to stop pooing on the really expensive rug in the cellar? He used to do it when we first got him, about three years ago. But he's started to do it again. We lock the door most nights, but whenever we don't, he goes down there and poos on the rug. And it's really annoying. I was down there on the computor earlier, and he actually sat down next to me and pooed. 'Twas horrible =( Has anyone got any tips on how to get him to stop? Or at least any similar problems with their pets that'll make me feel better about mine?
There's always light at the end of a tunnel, even if you have to pass a few bends to see it. ![]() Proud reciever of a glance from Kyo xD Mada tooi anataboshi |

Hey,
There are a few things that you can try: 1) Make sure you put him outside after feeding him, watch him go to the toilet and give it a name, for example, 'Be Quick' or 'Quickly'. If you say this, when he goes to the 'toilet' praise him , and treat him. That way you can use the command to let him know when he can go to the toilet. (I use this for when I compete) 2) You could re-train him using training pads in the house, if you put him in a crate at night with a bed and some newspaper, he is more likely to go to the loo on the 'Paper', he will learn this, you can then move the paper outside so he learns to go outside. 3) Watch him. If you see him sniffing around in circles, and if you see him start to squat, shout NO and take him outside. Then when he does go to the loo outside - lots of praise. From what you've said he is going down to the cellar because it isn't his territory. It isn't an area where he has to live, so he can 'mess' down there and it won't affect his life (if that makes sense). It also sounds like, because it is happening at night, he needs to be let out at a regular time in the evening to do his business - I let my dog out at 7pm and 9pm. I hope this helps =] Claire x I'm still alive.
Must have been a miracle It's been one hell of a ride Destination still unkown It's a fact of life: If you make one wrong move with a gun to your head You better walk the line or you'll be left for dead. I'm a runaway train on a broken track I'm the ticker on the bomb that you can't turn back Thats right. I got away with it all and I'm still alive. Let the end of the world come tumbling down. I'll be the last man standing on the ground As long as hot blood runs through my veins I'm still alive. |

Another suggestion to the excellent ones you already got is, when you clean the area, try to use a spray on the rug [disinfectant] that he won't like the smell of [lemon spray often works well] - if he can't take the smell, he won't use it...
Good luck! |
