He's adorable! I'd totally own a snake - if I didn't have a guniea pig. My worst fear would to find that Mr. Snake got out of his housing and gobbled up my little Kiwi.

I'm not a big snake person, but he's really cute!
Have you picked out a name for him yet?

The technical name for that colouration is anerythristic, due to the lack of red pigment. I have one too, just she's last year's hatchling, rather than this years.

Such a cute wee snake though ^_^.

Re: my new snake! - January 26th 2010, 12:18 PM

Once, my older brothers had two snakes. One of them got loose, and still to this day has not been found. It was just a garden snake, but I was still scared. Every time I hear the house make a weird noise when I'm up and nobody else is in the wee hours of the morning, I'm afraid it's the snake, (gosh, I forget his/her name. Did he/she ever have one? I dunno. xD) coming back to haunt me.

ANYWAY, that's why I don't like snakes. But if I did, I would totally get one like yours. It's so cool looking!

haha this happened to me when i was younger.i had a milk snake,it kept escaping, the first time it escaped it jumped out of the vacuum when my dad went to hoover his room LOL. the second time it went missing, we gave up finding it and got another snake,it was a corn snake and it was really agressive!!! then we realised that the milk snake had squeezed up a hole in it's water dish and was hiding in there! so we took the corn snake back. and the last time it escaped we never found it it's probly died now though because it had nothing to live on, poor thing .

i love them, i'd rather a snake escape them a spider! lol. fair play though. aww thanks hehe he's having a bit of a issue lately though, he hasn't been to the toilet in like 3 days, i think he's suffering constipation but can snakes even suffer from this??? lol

Three days is completely normal, my corn doesn't normally go for 4-5 after her meal.
Also, that's quite worrying that you've had so many escapes. Can I see a pic of your setup for your snake? I might be able to help figure out where its escaping from, it can be from the most unlikely of places ^^;

Also, here's a site that has what's quite possibly the best corn snake care sheet on the web, it'll answer all the basics and a few things you might not have expected.

Re: my new snake! - January 27th 2010, 06:44 PM

co-habiting is one of those things that may or may not work out. If the snakes have been raised together, then it's generally okay, but its still risky. Also, it might cause both snakes uneeded stress. Snakes are solitary animals, they don't really need or want company. Also, then there's the issue of breeding. They will breed, whether the female is ready/old enough or not. In that area, experienced breeders have told me to follow to rule of three, make sure the snake is at least 3 feet long, 3 years old and a certain weight (PM me if you want to know the exact figure). But the male will try to breed with the female anyways and then making sure a too-young female can handle eggs and stuff, and then incubating said eggs and then caring for the hatchlings......
It's quite a commitment.

So as someone who's kept snakes for a while, I'd recommend keeping them in separate vivs.

I'm not a snake person just because I'm afraid they'll bite/eat me. I have put a boa constrictor around my neck before though and I've touched them and stuff. They just...scare me :P

I'd defiantly agree! I'm currently breeding snakes, and its one hell of a commitment, not something to have to deal with by accident.... Its much easier to have them seperated.

Snakes of the genus Lampropeltis (means shiny shield, due to their scale patterns), or kingsnakes tend to be a bit more aggressive than corns. And wow, that must have been an unsual corn, all the ones I've ever seen are either really calm or panicky and scared of everything. Even mine tends to twitch in fright if I make any sudden movements and I've had her for ages.

Aww, he's so pretty. I like snakes, but I'm not sure if I'd want to own one...maybe it's the fear of being bitten or contricted. Lol X) Not only that, but my Mom wouldn't let me get one.
