I hate dogs, is this normal?

Ok I can't stand dogs. I told my 'friend' this today who just brought a dog. I didn't say anything mean I simply said 'I don't really like dogs' and she acted like I'd just stabbed her dog. She tried to make me like it for hours but I just can't. Then she said she doesn't want to be friends because I'm too weird. I just said I don't like dogs!

When I was young we used to have two dogs and the were massive. I was only about 2 at the time. They were always coming up to me and licking me (Think how I felt a huge dog opening it's mouth in front of my face)

And when I was about 5 I was in the park with my family and this dog just started chasing me for no reason. I wouldn't stop and I was so scared and it's owner was just smiling as saying 'isn't that sweet' I was so terrified and the owner just laughed at me when I was crying and said 'Fluffy (or whatever it was called) was being friendly' Yeah sure chasing a 5 year old is being friendly.

So now you see why I can't stand dogs. There is more reasons but these are the main ones. I told my 'friend' this and she said I was being silly as well.

Please don't think I agree with hurting and neglecting them I am not the mean. And I don't mean to offend anyone. Has anything like this happened to anyone? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to make my friend forgive me?

i don't like dogs either, you're not weird or crazy or anything like that.. don't worry! lol her saying she doesn't want to be friends with you because you don't like dogs is absolutely ridiculous. wow, seriously.. how immature can you be?. meh, if she's going to be that stupid then she's not someone you want to be friends with anyway.

I can understand. It;s normal not to like dogs.Not everyone has to like them. Although, I have dogs myself.
I mean this, as you don't like dogs, at all?. One my ex had this cat and I didn't have anything
against cats/kitties. I was more of a dog person and I think he kind of took it the wrong way. Although it wasn't the reason for why we broken up. Anyways, I don't think your friend meant by what she said, about not being not friends. Maybe you can try to reason with her and maybe she'll understand, if not then, maybe she's not really the kind of person you would want to be friends with. Hope everything goes well :]

Ach, na I totally completely understand what you mean. I can't stand dogs either...they scare me and they're so..dribbly and gah...and you never know if one you see on the street is going to be vicious or 'friendly'..

I know why, its from when I was 9 I got a really bad bite from one when all I was doing was delivering papers to its neddy owners' house...

My boyfriend hates dogs. He got bit by a Labrador when he was 2 and for him it is more of a fear.

I have a dog and I would never break up with him because he doesn't like dogs.
We have been together nearly 3 years and he has gotten used to my dog and knows she is a very calm and friendly dog. He is still a bit jumpy if she makes and sudden movements, jumps or barks though.

You can always try to explain to her a bit more, try to make her understand that you don't just hate them, it is a fear.
If your friend is so insensitive and doesn't understand or care about your fear then maybe she isn't someone you need in your life.

It's fine to hate dogs - we're all different- I hate cats! A lot of my friends hate dogs too, and won't come anywhere near my soppy spaniel!

It is however silly that your ''friend'' wont accept that you just don't like dogs! It's the same as someone not liking injections!! Talk to her about it....

Hey! Nah theres nothing wrong with that! I dont like dogs at all, a dog killed my cat, so nope I can't stand them. I dont mind little dogs as much but they YAP..anyway I wouldn't worry about your friend! She will get over it!

It's normal not to like dogs and there's really nothing wrong with not liking them or liking them. My friend hates most dogs and he's told me that whenever he comes over (I have a dog) but it's no big deal. As a dog-owner, I don't like all dogs. My cousin has chichauas (however you spell it) and one of them is a mean little bugger that snaps at your ankles.

Um, I do think its a bit weird, but I can see why you're scared of them. Things that are imprinted at that age can be hard to override, as such.

I think your 'friend' is actually the one with issues. You clearly had a few traumatic experiences and there is obviously nothing wrong with not liking dogs. Everyone can't stand certain things, personally, I can't stand fish.

I hate dogs too, but i wont do anything to harm them..
Hating is normal as long as you dont mix it with Violence especially when certain animals like dogs, cats, pigs, dolphin, etc have higher emotion level compare to other animals..

I'm in the same boat. I don't like most dogs... They stink and bark and when you pet them your hand smells like the animal itself. Hair gets all over your clothes and they fart and poop everywhere, then you step in it. When you eat they stare and you and make you uncomfortable... Most dogs are just yuck.

It's normal.
